Poem 1A

Step Up To Life

Look at that beautiful mountain range,

So awesome and beautiful

It’s staring at you and calling your name

It stands against the elegance of the amazing blue-purple royal sky

Now, it’s time for you to begin your climb

Pull yourself up with your clever sunny, bright determination

And step over the icy-cold hardships

Life has given you to navigate

Even though it makes you feel crazy and irate,

Step over the emotional pain you endured from personal losses

However, they still remain deep within your ruby-red heart as memorial crosses

Still, you must continue to climb

It is you who will pay if you fail to find a solution to these challenges

You are smart enough to win, so never give in

Step over the world’s vices and crises,

They’re trying to hold you back,

But what you must contend with is,

How are you going to act?

Always remember, it’s a known fact

Your dreams die if you step back

You must carry on

And with all your might and riveting cartelized soul

Pull yourself up as you touch the top

Do you hear the shiny, silvery bells ringing

And the angels singing and calling your name?

Now is the time to stand up tall and spread your wings

Yes, fly, fly, fly . . . up high!

Chant

Beautiful Times Are Coming To Me

When I Have The Courage, Strength, and Determination

To Be Daring And Bold

Poem 1B

That Mountain

That mountain may be big and tall

And I may be tiny and small

But I already made up my mind

That I’m going to climb that mountain

I will do whatever I need to do to make it to the top

Here I go, step by step

I pull myself up

Step by step, I climb over pains

Step by step, I climb over troubles

Step by step, I inch my way up

And when I hear the silver bells ringing,

I’ll know I have reached my goal

What To Expect With This Blog:

I will provide elementary through high school teachers and  parents homeschooling with poems, quotes, knowledge, and ideas to include in a unit on developing students’ healthy confidence and character traits. I will incorporate and utilize themes from nature in many of the pictures and poems to engage and expand the creative thinking avenues of the students in your classroom. I will also encourage teachers to have their students write poetry to share with the class.

Students may use any form of poetry they want, but I recommend using free verse for the poems they will be writing in these assignments. Click here and here to learn more about free verse poetry.

This unit is commensurate with the Social and Emotional Learning competencies outlined in nationwide educational standards

The Focus Of This First Blog Is Confidence and Determination.

Teachers, Become The Model Of Confidence!

Every teacher’s and parent’s dream is to be an integral figure in developing students who are self-confident, determined, and displaying good character. Some people might believe you are living in a fantasy world; however, today, this is something you can come close to with the guidance, knowledge, and inspiration of others in this field. Students need to witness firsthand the adult individuals around them modeling healthy examples of self-confidence. Your commitment must be utmost as the supreme ambassador for showing your students how to be a person of character.

The Struggle To Succeed Is Ongoing, Don’t Give Up !!!

The character of confidence may occur naturally for some students, but for others, it is a struggle that begs for attention. I know from my experience as a shy, insecure child growing up in a military household with five siblings. I fought internally with various aspects of myself until I decided to do something about my lack of confidence. In high school, I chose to take speech classes. These classes helped me immensely gain the inner strength I needed to speak before an audience. I became a more self-aware and emotionally in control intact individual. The willingness to grow at many different levels is necessary to maintain your self-confidence and reach your goals.

Five Things To Tell Your Students To Do

Make friends with kids without friends

Say “Hi” and smile at kids you don’t know

When you line up, let others go before you

When someone needs help, volunteer to help them if you can

Compliment someone you don’t usually talk to

What Healthy Confidence Is Not, Do You Know?

Help your students understand the difference between healthy confidence and the destructive elements of a person displaying unhealthy confidence. A student who uses their confidence as a catalyst to nurture considerate and kindhearted outcomes is a person of robust and remarkable character and demonstrates emotional maturity. However, someone who bullies, physically and or emotionally, harms others with their inappropriate actions, and their behavior is a menace to society and a negative influence on our population as a whole. Teachers must address this student behavior early for their well-being and personal development.

Five Things To Tell Your Students Not To Do

Please don’t say mean things to someone

Please don’t mock someone or make fun of them

Please don’t hit or physically hurt someone

Please don’t talk about someone behind their back

Please don’t start rumors about someone

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Poem 2

Your Character

Your character is the sterling silver way you present yourself to the world

Are you kind, respectful, confident, determined, responsible?

That is what other people will see in you If you are someone who has strong values

Do You believe in yourself and what you can achieve with hard work and dedication

Do you speak for the less fortunate and those in need of assistance or protection?

Just look squarely in a mirror, and you will see that skills, talents, and abilities are great

But your character will determine if others feel that you are a gift of rosy fate

Yes, friends, community members, and family too, will be happy to be in your space

So, who do you see in that shiny mirror of yours?

Activities For Poem 2

Write down what you see in the mirror when it comes to your character.

Next, write a poem about a character trait you want to work on this year.

Determined To Excel

Poem 3

Poem 3

Determined To Excel

I want to be

What I dreamed I could be

Envisioning myself walking through beautiful evergreen gardens

Swimming in blue-green Caribbean waters

Discovering cures for rare diseases

Inventing technologies for future generations

Controlling pollution, protecting the animal population, and the trees

When reality sets in, I know no one can stop my show

Day in and day out

I will struggle and fight

As I whisper and shout

What my life is all about

Strength and determination to battle the forces

That the weak-minded readily endorses

Emotional and driven but still in control

I eagerly reach for my ivy-tower goal

Activities For Poem 3

What is your ivory tower goal ( an important or significant development in your life) you would like to accomplish?

Write down what your goal is and why it’s important to you.

Poem 4

Hard Work

Just like the busy, ambitious beaver

I’m building my chestnut-colored home

One stick at a time, I’m setting a solid foundation

And, one task at a time, every piece must fit like a puzzle

Hammering my way through the hard times and the painful moments

Determined to win in the end, I continue

Because I know my success is just around the bend

Chant

I’m a determined person

Riding the waves of life

Nothing will stop me

As I fight to reach my dreams

Activities For Poem 4

After reading the poem and chant, write about something you work hard doing and why.

Share your answer with a classmate.

Then, use this information in a poem to give to your parents.

Determination Is Huge !

Someone who displays the character trait of determination will not give up easily, even when experiencing unusually trying situations. Not only are they willing to work under pressure and enormous stress, but they will put other projects aside to focus on the one at hand.

Helping students witness progress in their efforts to reach their goals is a valuable process in developing determination, and it could emerge as small successes that eventually lead to significant triumphs. Ultimately, it could trigger the internal drive, encouraging students to continue fighting for their dreams.

Be bold and point out examples of this behavior in class. Books that provide stories emulating the qualities of determination and self-confidence will further assist students in understanding and becoming more aware of these human gems.

You will find people under the false assumption that individuals who are intent on pursuing their goals and are victorious are just lucky. However, when you examine the circumstances, hard work played a significant part in their success. Students must understand that one might have talent, but passion, iron-will to succeed, and grueling work is the road to achievement.

What Teachers Can Do

Teachers can help identify and build skills in their students in the classroom. Observing and taking notes on the learning style of each student and their interests, along with their particular abilities in school, is a place to start. Then, you want to share this information with the student and parent.

Next, you can build skills around your students’ strengths and encourage them to try new avenues. You will find that for some students, it will be easy for them to engage in new endeavors, but for others, it will be a challenge.

When your class tries new skills, students will begin to distinguish between the skills they want to explore on a higher level and those they have no interest in pursuing. Even though a student may not be excited about a talent at the present moment, they may change their mind later.

Besides Reading, Writing, and Math, Here Are Some Other Skills Students Can Work On

Artistic Skills

Musical Skills

Athletic Skills

Theatrical Skills

Skills are like magic, they help young people to develop confidence and build character in their lives.
